Jip had duty Friday night, but thankfully made it home. It was quite the adventure getting off base due to the number of people who either didn't know how to drive in the snow or were driving cars that were not meant to be driven in snow (read: Camaros).
Once Jip got home, we headed out to play in the middle of the storm. It was snowing like crazy, but blowing just a bit. The kids had a great time "helping" clear the driveway and playing with our neighbor, Aless.
When the wind picked up, we headed in and didn't go back out. Jip and I put together a puzzle, with a little help from Ryleigh and RJ. The kids played with Aless inside most of the afternoon. We all went to bed tired.
Sunday was chilly. No, it was COLD. Nevertheless, we headed outside--twice. The first time was out front. Ryleigh and Jip improvised to make a sled. After about 15 minutes, I made everyone come in. It was just too cold. But, the kids had a little fun in that short time.
We were hopeful that the wind would die down in the afternoon, and it did a bit. So, we took a turn in the backyard. I mixed up some food coloring and water for the kids to play with. Jip and I had a little fun with it, too.
School has been called off for Monday because there aren't enough plows to get the side roads and parking lots. Jip's ship has also called for only essential personnel, so he'll manage what he needs to by phone from home to allow the base services to continue to do their work to get the roads and parking lots cleared there. A couple of cities have already said no school on Tuesday, too. We'll have to see what Virginia Beach does.
Next weekend, as long as our weather holds, we'll be heading to DC for some PBS-type fun, swimming in a hotel pool, and a stop at IKEA. As always, pics to come. Until next time, cheers!
