Maybe my title should be "Slacker!"? I will try to do better and not let so much time go in between posts.
We've had a pretty busy last three weeks. Jip went to DC to look at his apartment and we head up on the 2nd to move his stuff in. He'll go up to start his job on the 9th or 10th.
We moved out of our storage unit and now everything is on Jip's side of the garage. It's a bummer he can't park in the garage while he is home on the weekends, but we figured it was silly to continue to pay for a storage unit while paying rent in two locations. It's funny what you have to think about in Virginia, though. We had to buy a dehumidifier for the garage. I can't even imagine saying that in Colorado. Thankfully I saw someone post in a local FB group about their stuff getting ruined within a few months without a dehumidifier. Phew. So glad I saw that post!
Ryleigh finished up her second sewing class on Outschool. RJ took a week-long Minecraft class and learned a lot about how to use redstone in the game. The last two days, the kids built rollercoasters. RJ's been so excited since the class and has gone crazy with his building in the game. The other bonus of that class is that he has been able to join an adult-moderated Minecraft server with other kids age 8-15 who have also taken Minecraft classes through Outschool. I feel RJ is playing in a safe space, so we don't mind letting him play and being able to chat with people we don't know. (But, that is the only place that we allow chat with people they don't know.) Ryleigh took a one-day, one-hour art class through Outschool and learned how to draw Pusheen (a cartoon cat) doing activities. The teacher was in Vancouver, Canada. Students were in all four time zones plus there was a student from England. She had a blast. We'll definitely let Ryleigh take another one of that teacher's classes.
Jip said farewell to Norfolk Naval Shipyard on the 28th. The kids and I were able to attend, and we were glad to see Jip be celebrated.
School starts on the 8th. Both of the kids' teachers have called and we'll meet them briefly when we do a drive-by on Friday morning to say hello and pick up workbooks and other supplies. While they are learning from home, Jip wanted them to be more school-ish than they were when they were fighting over the big chair like during the last quarter of the last school year. So, he quickly built them sawhorse desks. Chairs and lamps are on their way.
Wish us luck as we get Jip moved in and get the school year rolling. It's going to be weird all around. As always, pics to come of our happenings. Until next time, cheers!
