School is out for the summer! I think RJ is mostly glad. I know Ryleigh is glad. I know I am glad. Between the move, the minimal time in a school building, and the adjustments to a very different school and district with regard to rigor and opportunities, we all need to reset. The kids will be doing online gifted camps through William and Mary, their school's summer learning challenges, and some Mom-prescribed, gifted-centered activities to fill in some gaps, but the kids should still have a mostly relaxing summer.
In addition to wrapping up school, we have continued the crawl back to normalcy. We took the kids to a drive-in to see Raya and the Last Dragon (so good). The movie was supposed to start around 9:30, but they waited until they got all of the cars into the 3-screen theater, so the movie started at 10:20. Needless to say, we didn't stick around for the second movie.
The following week, one of Ryleigh's gymnastics friends asked her to join her at a little independent theater in Kingston. The theater is a converted firehouse and is just nifty. The owner comes in before the movie starts and talks a little bit about the movie and the upcoming features. We were so delighted to see Cruella, have popcorn with real butter, and support a small business. Masks are still on when not eating since the kids aren't vaccinated, but no big deal.
And, finally, RJ completed yet another belt at Code Ninja. He is now done with LUA and is moving on to Unity. This belt will probably take him a lot longer to complete because this is a brand new language to him, but I'm sure he'll catch on fast!
Our yard will play host to the first Wardroom activity with families since the pandemic began. We are so excited to get people together outdoors and continue on the path to normal. Then that same evening, we will say goodbye to two Admirals who live near us on base. It feels good to have social events again!!
