Did you hear him yell?

Today was a rough day for RJ.  :(

RJ had his 4 year well-child check up today.   The appointment itself went well, but his time at immunizations was not very fun for the little guy.  He had to get four shots today.  He was nervous about it before we even got there and when we finally got to go into the back area where they administer the shots, he started crying.  Two technicians had me lay him down on the bed and hold his hands on his chest.  They pinned his legs to the end of the bed.  Simultaneously, they both administered one shot each into RJ's thighs.  The scream from his mouth was loud, very loud.  Then, the technicians each gave RJ another shot in each thigh at the same time.  The second sound from RJ probably woke some dead.   I think the whole hospital probably heard him.  Did you?

It was very hard to hear him cry in pain, but getting shots are an unfortunate reality for us all.  It's just too bad that little ones can't understand the "why" behind the pain.

The rest of the day was not easy for RJ, either.  I think he milked it a some, but he walked around like an old man stating that his legs were hurting, which I'm sure was true to a certain extent.  "Ouch" was what we heard every few minutes.  He didn't want the band-aids removed and was quite vocal about it.   And on and on.

If there was any humorous part of the day, it was his quotes about what the doctor said (all untrue, by the way)

1.  "The doctor said that I can't walk until the shots heal, Dad.  You have to carry me."
2.  "The doctor said that I can't remove the band-aids for 3 hours. "  (this was about 8 hours after the shots)
3.  "The doctor said that I can't remove the band-aids for 10 hours."  (after finding out that we were long past the 3 hour point)

He's going to be just fine, but today will not go down in RJ's history as one of his favorite days.  Poor kiddo!
