Sakura season is a big deal in Japan. Parks put up spotlights on the trees and play hosts to festivals. Our base hosts an open base event, which is when the gates are open to anyone who is not from a country on the debarred list (you know, like North Korea or France--seriously, France is on the list). This year we avoided the open base event. Here's why:

We celebrated the Sakura in our own way with a photo shoot in a little park in nearby Zushi. Rebekah probably took somewhere around 100 photos, and she's shared three with us so far:

The Sakura come and go so fast. As we were driving home tonight, we noticed the Sakura "snow" on the road. It was only a light dusting, but it means the beginning of the end of another season of cherry blossoms. We'll enjoy the beauty for another week or so, then it is time to bring on the spring green! Yay!
